The Festival of Freedom 1956-2016

The Festival of Freedom 1956-2016, a two-day commemoration event dedicated to the memory of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight in 1956 started on October 22th afternoon in the Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels with the opening speeches of Hungarian Ambassadors. The Festival was jointly organised by the Embassy of Hungary in Brussels, the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU and the Permanent Representation of Hungary to NATO.

Visitors could enjoy the concerts of Hungarian folk, jazz and pop musicians, visit the Hungarian Market and buy and taste the specialties of Hungarian gastronomy. A period Joseph Stalin III main battle tank with the “original” crew, as well as Freedom Fighters and various workshops awaited visitors.

We would like to thank all Belgian and Hungarian friends, some 5.000 visitors who joined us to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Revolution. We are very grateful to the Belgian Military History Museum for providing an authentic, IS-3 tank for the re-enactment of some historical scenes. Special thanks for the support to the event’s sponsors: the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight 60th Anniversary Memorial Board, Waberer's International, Hungarian Development Bank, MVM Group, MOL and Wizz Air. Without whom the Festival of Freedom could not have been organised.
