21 May is the Day of Hungarian Defence, when we commemorate the formation of the independent Hungarian army in May 1848 and the recapture of the country's capital and Buda Castle from the Austrian imperial troops on 21 May 1849. On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador Iván dr. Tamás Kovács and Brigadier General László Kálló, Attaché for Defence, Military and Air Affairs, received at the Embassy the Heads of Mission accredited to Brussels and members of the diplomatic and military attaché corps.

On 13 May, the Hungarian Business Club Meeting in Brussels took place at the Hungarian Embassy in Brussels, jointly organized by the Commercial and Trade Office of the Embassy and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This year's event focused on the economic policy priorities of the Hungarian EU Presidency. The discussions addressed the EU's competitiveness, enlargement, opportunities to boost free trade agreements, as well as the difficulties arising from the regulatory and administrative burdens on businesses, and potential solutions.

On 29 and 30 April, H.E. János Bóka, Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs represented Hungary at the informal meeting of the General Affairs Council in Brussels. The meeting was held against the background of the 20th anniversary of the 2004 enlargement. On 1 May 2004, 10 new Member States, including Hungary, joined the European Union.

The Walloon-Luxembourg Space Industry Roadshow took place between 17-19 April, during which the Hungarian participants were able to gain insight into the specifics of the Belgian and Luxembourg space sector. The program, organized by the Economic and Trade Office of the Embassy, aimed to create a platform for Belgian, Luxembourg and Hungarian associations, clusters, aerospace companies and research institutions to exchange best practices, identify possible synergies and build successful R&D and commercial partnerships.

On the occasion of the Memorial Day of the Hungarian Victims of the Holocaust, the Embassy of Hungary organized a commemoration in the Liszt Institute Brussels, where H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács delivered the keynote speech. Baroness Regina Sluszny Holocaust survivor who was a hidden child, shared her memories and the exhibition titled “Escaping Ukraine: Am I My Brother's Keeper?”was opened as well.

It was 25 years ago, on 12 March 1999 that Hungary became a full-fledged member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). Four days later, on 16 March 1999, the national flag of Hungary was raised at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Hungary has ever since been an active and dedicated member of the Alliance, and has been striving for the safeguarding and strengthening international peace and stability together with its 31 allies.
